Photoshop is a great tool, but it doesn’t come with filters like Instagram’s. It has “filters” but they take a lot of time and tweaking, and aren’t nearly as pretty right out of the box compared to Instagram’s filters.

Lucky for us, there’s a way to merge Photoshop’s flexibility with Instagram’s pretty filters.

You don’t need to be a Photoshop pro to use this

If you know the basics, you can use this trick to add instagram-style filters to your Photoshop images in literal seconds.

The trick? Something called “photoshop actions.”

Actions are a series of editing steps that have been saved together, so they’ll execute instantly and give your photo great edits in seconds.

There are a wide variety of Photoshop actions, but many are made to create an instagram-style filter in Photoshop.

Bonus: It’s free!

Someone has to create and save the action before you can use it in Photoshop. That could take a long time, but fortunately, it won’t take any of your time.

Because there are fantastic people out there that share some of their work for free on the interwebs, you can find and download new Photoshop actions for FREE!

Try getting started here.

1, 2, 3 -Done.

Once you find an action set you like, download it and follow these steps.

  1. Open photoshop and the actions tab – it’s going to be a similar tab to your “layers” tab. If you don’t see it go to Window > Actions.
  2. Go the the action tab’s menu > Load Actioninstagram-style filters for photoshop
  3. Find the file (it should have .atn as the file extension) and open it.

You’re done! The action(s) should load into your action tab and you can now use them.

How to use a Photoshop action on a new photo:

Using actions is seriously sooooo easy.

Click to highlight the action you want, click the little triangle “play” button on the bottom of the action tab.

That’s it. No joke.

Now you can instantly create blog photos in Photoshop that have instagram-appeal.
